Rainy Oregon Coast Engagement Session | Vicky + Derek |

A Rainy And Very Windy Engagement Session at Cannon Beach and Hug Point

Vicky & Derek came up to Oregon from California so that I could take their engagement photos at the Oregon Coast. I have known Vicky since the first day of high-school, 17 years now (wait WHAT!), and felt so honored that they choose to fly up here so that I could take their engagement photos. This was their first time to the Oregon Coast, so we decided to do two locations, starting off at Cannon Beach then ending with Hug Point after!

Now let me tell you about the weather. Leading up to the day, we knew there was a pretty high chance of rain. First of all, it was March in Oregon, so rain is pretty much almost guaranteed during this time. Second off, rain was in the forecast for the day we choose. I have done sessions in the rain often and honestly it brings its own magic and mood to the shoot. I always tell my couples to embrace the weather and not let it ruin the shoot. Which these two 100% did. They laughed and smiled the whole session. BUT the weather was not JUST a little rain. It was 30mph winds which may not sound like a lot but when you have sand whipping at us and smacking us every which way possible, it is a lot lol Wind, rain, sand, just hitting us the whole time (pretty sure Vicky and I had sand in our hair for at least a week after) But did these two let that ruin their engagement photos? Nope! We of course took breaks in the car to warm up and change some outfits because by the end they were definitely wet, but other wise they kept a smile on their faces the whole time.

The one thing this type of weather does to the Oregon Coast is bring less crowds. Cannon Beach is probably one of the most popular beaches on the Oregon Coast, especially for tourists. Visiting this beach over the summer may be nice because of the weather but so many people come to this particular beach, so the crowds are a lot. If you are thinking of Eloping on Cannon Beach or wanting a session their, I would say pick a week day and/or the off season. September-May you can get way less crowds and more privacy! Otherwise there are a lot of other beaches near by that can be a second resort if crowds end up being too much. Even with crowds, the Oregon Coast is still one of the most magical places in my opinion.

Cannon Beach is the first Oregon beach I visited when I came to Oregon back in 2020. (Check out that shoot here). I think it will always hold a special place in my heart because it is definitely the reason why I chose to move to Oregon in the first place. The drive from Portland to the coast itself sold me honestly. Very thankful that I live in this beautiful state!
